The Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the schedule for India’s long tour of West Indies. In what will be a seven week-long tour, which will begin on July 6, India will play four Tests apart from two practice matches. The four Test matches will be held at Antigua and Barbuda, Jamaica, St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago. The tour will kick-off with a two-day practice match from July 9, which will be played in St Kitts. This will be followed by a three-day warm-up game, beginning from July 14 at the same venue.

Following the conclusion of the practice games, India will head into the Test challenge. The first Test will be played in Antigua from July 21-25, the second in Jamaica from July 30 to August 3, the third in St. Lucia from August 9 to 13, and the final one in Trinidad from August 18 to 22. India last toured West Indies for a series in 2011, during which they played three Tests, and won the series 1-0, in what was a rather defensive performance by MS Dhoni and his men, and attracted a lot of criticism.

The current tour was under doubt, as the relationship between BCCI and WICB had soured after the West Indies team abandoned the India tour midway and left for home in October 2014. The BCCI levied heavy penalty on the Windies cricket board following the development. But, it has been learnt that the damages have been waived off after the West Indies board gave an assurance to its Indian counterpart, that it would complete the remainder of the matches from the unfinished 2014 tour, by visiting the country in 2017 for another series. India and West Indies had met in the World T20 semi-final in India, which was won by the later.

Interestingly, India is yet to get a new coach and support staff in place, after the contract of Ravi Shastri ended, and the BCCI recently advertised for the same. The deadline for receiving applications is June 10. It is being said that the new coaching staff will be in place before India departs for the Caribbean.

The squad for West Indies: Virat Kohli (captain) and includes Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, K L Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vice captain), Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur and Stuart Binny
