5 Players to look out for in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

Published on: Sep 25, 2023

There are a number of players participating in the mega event for the first time. Plenty of them have featured in the internationals before but are yet to put their mark on a global event. Previous tournaments have produced heroes like Kevin O'Brien, Mashrafe Murtaza and Lasith Malinga and the upcoming World Cup will surely see some known talents making a buzz

These players could also be upsetting the odds at Betway Satta during the tournament as well, so check out our player picks below.

1. Mohammad Nawaz (Pakistan)

Nawaz is participating in his first ever 50 over World Cup. He has been an integral part of the Pakistan cricket team over the last 2 years.

Mohammad Nawaz was noticed by selectors after his performances in the Bangladesh Premier League and the National 50 over Cup in Pakistan. He is a capable batter who can play at any position. Nawaz can also be a lethal weapon for his captain on rank turners.

He played an important role in Pakistan's win against India in the Asia Cup 2022. The flamboyance with which he batted was a spectacle to just sit and enjoy. His stroke making is very clean and if he finds the ball in his zone, it usually goes out of the ground.

Nawaz will play an important role for Pakistan as an all rounder. He is a great 5th bowling option if there are turning pitches. Nawaz usually bats in the lower order but Pakistan may want to try him up the order just to surprise it's opponents. He is certainly one of the unknowns to look out for in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

2. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Bangladesh)

Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the talk of the town in Bangladesh after winning several games on his own. He is a fantastic all rounder who sets up an example for the young ones to follow.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz has performed consistently well both with bat and the ball in the last 2 years. It will be his first World Cup appearance and he would want to make it count.

Miraz performed superbly against India when the latter visited Bangladesh for a white ball tour. He played a major role in Bangladesh's victory in the ODI series. Miraz scored century in a winning cause and in another ODI, he took his team home with the bat when all odds were against it.

Miraz provides breakthroughs for his captain when the team is in trouble. He is called the golden arm in Bangladesh for a reason.

3. Maheesh Theekshana (Sri Lanka)

He is one of the most dangerous spinners in the cricketing world in current times. Theekshana has played for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and knows what to expect from the Indian conditions.

Maheesh Theekshana's bowling partner Wanindu Hasaranga may miss out on the World Cup but the former will be happy to take the responsibility of winning games in Hasaranga's absence.

Theekshana performed superbly in the recently concluded ICC Men's World Cup Qualifiers. He picked up wickets when the chips were down. Theekshana is a very bankable bowler who doesn't shy away from match-ups.

It will be Theekshana's first 50 overs World Cup and he would be itching to leave an impact in the tournament.

4. Glenn Phillips (New Zealand)

Glenn Phillips can bat spectacularly, bowl a little and field absolutely well. Phillips is a captain's dream. He saves at least 10 runs every match with his superb fielding.

Phillips performed very well with the bat against Pakistan earlier this year. He was in good form in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 and also performed well against England in the recently concluded ODI series.

Glenn Phillips bats in the middle order and is vested with the responsibility of being a finisher for the team. He bats very sensibly and attacks when the right ball comes. When Phillips gets going, it's very difficult to stop him. He is particularly good against the spin bowling and this is what makes him a great choice for a middle order batter for New Zealand.

5. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Afghanistan)

He made his debut for Afghanistan right after the 2019 World Cup. Gurbaz had impressed the selectors after he performed like a champion in the Shpageeza League. He is only 21 years of age but has plenty of experience, playing for Franchises around the world.

Gurbaz was initially tagged as a T20 player but he has now taken a very smooth transition into the ODI cricket. He plans his innings well and we have seen him score centuries for fun even in tough conditions.

Gurbaz has been given the workload for taking Afghanistan to flying but stable starts and he has been doing it pretty well in the recent times. With an average of 38.32 in ODI's and close to a thousand runs, Gurbaz is certainly one of the unknowns to look out for in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
