Former West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan is all set to retire from international cricket. Sarwan last played at Test against India at Bridgetown in July 2011. His last ODI was against the same opponent in June 2013. In a career spanning 13 years, the 36-year-old featured in 87 Tests and scored 5842 runs at an average of 40.01 with 15 hundreds and 31 fifties. In ODIs, he played 181 games, scoring 5804 runs at an average of 42.67 with five hundreds and 38 fifties. Here’s a look at his top performances in international cricket.

291: Sarwan got his highest Test score against England at Bridgetown in February-March 2009. Sarwan made 291 after England had posted a massive 600 on the board. He occupied the crease for nearly 700 minutes and played 452 balls, during which he hit 30 fours and two sixes. There were a lot of other fantastic batting performances in the match, which ended in a draw. Denesh Ramdin made 166, as West Indies responded with 749 for 7 declared. Andrew Strauss and Ravi Bopara struck hundreds for England in the first innings.

128: Sarwan made 128 in the second innings of the second Test against Australia in June 2008. West Indies were set 372 to win the Test, and would have been under pressure. But, Sarwan ensured there was no collapse in store holding the innings together. He made 128 from 241 balls with 18 fours and one six. West Indies batted out for 93 overs, making 266 for 5 to save the game. Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored 107 and 77 not out in the two knocks while Simon Katich and Michael Clarke made hundreds for Australia.

127: Although Sarwan did not win West Indies a lot of matches, he did play a significant role in helping the team save some games. This 127 came in another saving cause, against South Africa at Antigua in April-May 2005. West Indies conceded 588 for 6 batting first. In reply, West Indies dazzled their way to 747 all out. This was the match in which Chris Gayle blasted 317 from 483 balls. Sarwan played a good supporting role as well. His 127 came from 279 balls with 14 fours and two sixes. Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo also hit hundreds in the game. For South Africa, AB de Villiers, Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis and Ashwell Prince also hit hundreds.

115 not out: Sarwan made this unbeaten century as West Indies chased down 246 against India in an ODI at St Kitts on May 23, 2006. Sarwan guided a tense chase perfectly as West Indies won by four wickets and one ball to spare. His 115 came from 119 balls with 10 fours and two sixes, and was a knock that was crafted to near perfection. Lower down the order, Chanderpaul also chipped in with a crucial 58 while Chris Gayle made 40 from 65 at the top. For India, Virender Sehwag top scored with 97, but his knock was clearly overshadowed by Sarwan on the day.
