The International Cricket Council has today announced that Elite Panel Umpire Asad Rauf has been withdrawn from the upcoming Champions Trophy. The Pakistani Umpire has been in news for allegedly having links with bookies during this edition of the IPL. It is learnt that Asad Rauf is already under the scanner of the Mumbai Police.

Asad Rauf was in the news for the wrong reasons not so long ago when a small-time model called Leena Kapoor had accused him of sexually exploiting her by giving a false promise of marrying her. The model had released her intimate photographs with Asad Rauf which can be seen easily on the internet.

The Pakistani Elite Umpire had officiated in as many as 13 IPL matches this season. He last officiated on May 19th during the game between the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Although the ICC is yet to receive proof of Asad Rauf’s alleged misdeeds in the IPL, the governing body has gone ahead of suspending him based on the media reports. ICC Chief Executive David Richardson has explained that “In the wake of reports that the Mumbai Police are conducting an investigation into Asad Rauf’s activities, we feel that it is in Asad’s best interests as well as those of the sport and the event itself, that he is withdrawn from participating in the ICC Champions Trophy.”
