PSL 2016: PCB had indicated the tournament would be played in Qatar, but the first season of the PSL will reportedly now take place in the United Arab Emirates.

Pakistan Super League 2016 is an upcoming debut season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), established by the Pakistan Cricket Board in 2015. The season will commence on 4 February 2016 with the final match to be held on 24 February 2016.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had announced Doha, Qatar as a venue for their long-gestating Twenty20 League. But meetings between their officials and those of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) over the last few days

Officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) met over the last couple of days in the UAE, and it is increasingly likely now that the decision to move to the UAE have made it increasingly likely that the PSL will be played in the UAE in February 2016.

The development, said one official, is partly an indication of the strength of the relationship between the two boards. The PCB has staged all of Pakistan’s home matches in the UAE since 2009, but the relationship goes back much further, to the start of international cricket in the region.

It will have helped as well that a Twenty20 league run by a Full Member that attracts some of the world’s biggest stars will bring enhanced financial benefits to the ECB and cricket in the country.

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen is the latest player to put up his hand to be part of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) next February. Pietersen confirmed his involvement via a video message played during the launch of the 2016 PSL in Lahore on Sunday.
