Final Report

The fourth match of the Tri-Series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand has been abandoned eventually after two days of heavy rainfall. Both the sides share a point each from this match. Sri Lanka are now in a do-or-die situation against India for any chances to make it to the Final.

Rain Break

Heavy rain has halted the proceedings on the reserve day with Sri Lanka stranded on 203 for 3 in the 44th over. The rain was quite inevitable right from the start of the match and by evening time, it came down heavily in no time. The match is unlikely to restart given the intensity of the rain at Dambulla.

The Sri Lankan innings was going on smoothly with partnerships coming all the way. Dilshan started the innings with five consecutive boundaries in a row though he disappointingly got bowled out for 44 to a low ball from Styris in the 16th over. Sri Lanka from 72 for 2 at that stage saw another partnership to build the platform slowly towards the end overs. Skipper Sangakkara chipped in with 40 before becoming Styris' second victim. At 131 for 3, Chamara Silva walked in for his comeback innings and he produced an efficient knock of 41 not out from 57 balls with 4 fours and a six over squareleg before the rain arrived. Mahela Jayawardene at the other end was unusually calm but still got 59 not out from 72 balls.

Toss and Teams

After yesterday's wash out, there was a fresh toss in the fourth ODI at Dambulla which was again won by New Zealand. However, this time their Skipper Ross Taylor decided to field first considering that there is a threat of rain interruption for today as well. New Zealand want to play it safe according to the Duckworth/Lewis Method. Both sides have remained unchanged.
